College enrollment increased for the fourth consecutive year in fall 2025, reaching nearly 114,000 degree-seeking students statewide — an increase of 13.6% since fall 2021. As more New Mexicans pursue higher education, institutions need flexible and accessible ways to serve students across different ages, locations, and stages of their careers. New Mexico has an opportunity to respond differently.
Rather than asking every institution to build the same capabilities independently, the New Mexico Online Hub was created around a simple idea: collaboration is more powerful than duplication.

Why Was the New Mexico Online Hub Created?
Launching and sustaining successful online programs requires much more than putting courses on the internet.
Institutions need instructional designers, marketing specialists, enrollment expertise, student success teams, technology infrastructure, faculty development, analytics, employer partnerships, and continuous quality improvement. Building these capabilities independently can be expensive and difficult, particularly for smaller institutions.
The New Mexico Online Hub was established to help institutions address these challenges by providing access to specialized services, expertise, technology, and operational support. Rather than requiring every institution to build every online education capability independently or outsource critical services outside the state, the Hub creates opportunities to share resources and expertise while keeping institutions at the center of their own academic decisions.
Through this shared-services model, participating institutions can access specialized expertise and enterprise-level resources that might otherwise require significant individual investment. At the same time, each institution maintains its own mission, brand, academic programs, faculty, governance, curriculum, and academic standards.
The Hub does not replace the academic expertise or decision-making of participating institutions. Instead, it provides the services and support that enable faculty and institutional leaders to focus on teaching, learning, academic quality, and serving their students.

Whether a student lives in a rural community, is balancing work and family responsibilities, is returning to complete a degree, or is preparing for a new career, access to quality online higher education in New Mexico can remove barriers that geography and scheduling often create.
New Mexico has a significant population of adults who could benefit from flexible pathways to education and career advancement. More than one in five New Mexicans ages 25–64 have some college education but no degree, representing a substantial opportunity to help adult learners complete credentials, build new skills, and advance their careers.
Creating access, however, is only part of the equation. Students also need high-quality instruction, effective support, and an online learning experience designed around their needs.

The Hub’s collaborative model is already being put into practice. Northern New Mexico College was the first institution to officially join the New Mexico Online Hub, partnering with the Hub to expand online educational opportunities and support high-demand programs, including its RN to BSN, Business, and Teacher Education programs. The Hub has since expanded its institutional partnerships to include New Mexico Highlands University and New Mexico Tech.
These partnerships demonstrate how statewide collaboration can help institutions strengthen the services, technology, and support surrounding online education while maintaining their individual missions, identities, academic programs, and decision-making.
